I absolutely headcanon that Ryuji started bleaching his hair in middle school so other kids would stop making fun of Ann.
Because he absolutely would see kids treating her badly/differently and know that wasn't right and go home and bleach his hair so she's not the only blonde anymore. Because he would step up for a classmate even if he didn't know her that well. That's just who he is.
